REVIEW OF SYSTEM EXPRESS BY DAN LAMBERT (REDBRICK)

Remix albums tend to be seen as a bit of a cop-out or a cash-in, but System Express is something a little bit special.
From the opening bleeps of Richie Hawtin's Plastikman remix of Alphawave, you know that you're in for a real treat Seamlessly sequenced, this is serious DANCE music from System 7, a group who too often dive into wiffly, noodly warblings on their "real" albums.
Carl Cox, Marshall Jefferson, Derrick May, Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin, Doc Scott, Alex Paterson and System 7 themselves rank as some of the true innovators in techno over the past five years, and they've all had a hand in this. It's not just techno, it's not just trance, it's not just house, it's not just drum'n'bass, it's all and so much more besides. After an hour of aural ecstasy, the band's own remix of Sunburst fades into silence and a musical journey of the highest quality has been completed.
If you're even considering buying a DJ mix album, forget it.

Get System Express instead.
